About the Class

Tae Kwon Do is a contact sport.

Beginning students are not required to purchase
any equipment or uniforms. Color belt students
are required to have a traditional white uniform.
You are invited to come and try a class at any
time. Persons having previous training are
welcome.

Instructor Beamer teaches the Ji Do Kwan style
(or school) of Tae Kwon Do, having started with
the American Tae Kwon Do Association (now
known as C.K.Kim's Tae Kwon Do Association)
while a student at the University of North Carolina.
C.K. Kim's Tae Kwon Do Association is one of
the oldest martial arts organizations in North
Carolina having started in Chapel Hill in 1963.
Other schools in the association are in Charlotte,
Greensboro, and in the New York City metropolitan area.

The emphasis in training is on self-defense skills. We teach skills of offence and defense including throwing and falling. The vigorous exercise involving dynamic use of the limbs and body is a great conditioner and builder of coordination.  Because Tae Kwon Do emphasizes overall coordination, balance and posture, the training is an excellent enhancement to any other athletic activity.

Learning self-defense skills builds confidence that carries over to school or work. As students advance in rank they are expected to develop skills in leadership and teaching. Classes are structured to develop these skills and provide a framework to practice them. Tae Kwon Do is an activity that allows students to grow at their own pace but have group support. But most of all Tae Kwon Do is fun!

We train the body to develop the mind, and develop the mind to build the spirit.
Tae Kwon Do is Korean Karate, a dynamic martial art emphasizing kicking and punching.
Bill Beamer, 5th Dan Black Belt with 32 years training and twenty years teaching experience, is the instructor.
