A Letter from the Mayor
As our staff works to merge the Reeves Community Center into our Parks and Recreation plans, I am happy to express my thoughts regarding this ambitious venture.  The Reeves Center has always been a critical element in our city's recreation activities and with the merger will become the center of our city's growing recreation plans.

We have a Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and this group will continue to work with our new Parks and Recreation Department Head as we attempt to utilize all of our parks and facilities.  Our board of Commissioners recognizes the various needs expressed by our citizens for recreation facilities and want to provide these as resources can become available.  At the same time we are
sensitive to the tax burden on our citizens and must keep this to a minimum.  We truly believe the merger of Reeves into our city Recreation Department will be in everyone's best interest.

The Reeves fee schedule for participation in all activities and the detailed programs to be offered are getting careful study and this will continue.  In the interim the previous schedule remains in effect and will be prorated until June 30th.  The new fee structure will become effective July 1st, 2005.

We believer this merger is a major positive step that will benefit all of our citizens and as our city continues to grow through annexation and internal growth we will be able to provide more of the facilities and programs we need.  We see this merger as a tremendous opportunity and at the same time a real challenge.  Have patience as we all work to make our Parks and Recreation Department and our recreation facilities the best for a city our size in North Carolina.

Jack A. Loftis, Mayor

Congratulations to everyone participating in the
2006 RCC 5K Run on the Greenway!!!

As you'll see from the stats below, there was an awesome turnout for the 5K run, sponsored by The Mount Airy Junior Women's Club and the Reeves Community Center Foundation.  127 runners ran the 5K and around 20 people participated in the 1/2 mile Fun Run.  This year's even doubled the participation from the previous year.

About $7000 was raised, after expenses, for the organizations' charitable project.

Thanks to all participants, sponsors, and volunteers for a great event.

Next year's date will be Saturday, October 13, 2007.  Mark your calendars NOW!
